Betty Want Scholarship applications due May 3

The 2019 Betty Want Scholarship is now open to all graduating high school students in St. Thomas and Elgin County.

Created to encourage educational success in local youth, the $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a student who shows exemplary leadership.

Last year’s scholarship winner was Kendra Nesbitt from Corinth. “The Betty Want Scholarship has made a significant impact towards my first year of university,” said Nesbitt. “This award gave me confidence and motivation to pursue my educational goals.”

The Betty Want Scholarship recognizes Betty Want’s many years of service to the community as a staff member at United Way.

Students interested in applying must complete a 500 word essay detailing their history of volunteer work and community leadership and a letter of support from a community organization. Application forms are available from school guidance departments.

Application packages must be postmarked or received by Friday, May 3, 2019 at:
United Way Elgin Middlesex
