Congratulations to Jon Brett, Brett Ocular Prosthetics for placing the winning bid for United Way’s #UNIGNORABLE guitar, a one-of-a-kind work of art.
The auction closed at $1,300 at Railway City Brewery in St. Thomas. The guitar, built for the 2019 United Way campaign, was on display as Rock and Roll trivia aired throughout the evening.
“You can’t ignore the color. It will always make me think of what United Way does in our community. Now I’ll be able to share this story personally every time someone asks about the guitar.”
The #UNIGNORABLE guitar was custom built by Dan Flaherty, Communications Manager, Middlesex London Health Unit who is also a member of the Southwestern Ontario Luthiers, a group of stringed instrument builders. A T-style electric, the guitar has a solid poplar body with a 22-fret rosewood fretboard and “skunk stripe”. Custom features include Alnico 5 pickups, Grover Rotomatic tuners and an Oak Grigsby three-way selector switch with steel domed control knobs.
Combined with United Way’s nearly unmatchable, patented #UNIGNORABLE colour, this guitar is truly something for the most dedicated aficionado.
When Brett received the good news he had won the auction, he was thrilled. “I’ve been playing guitar since I was in my early twenties,” he said. “You can’t ignore the color. It will always make me think of what United Way does in our community. Now I’ll be able to share this story personally every time someone asks about the guitar.”
The guitar was built in support of the 2019 United Way campaign, with all proceeds going to locally funded programs and services in Elgin and Middlesex counties most vulnerable members.
