New! United Way Tax Calculator proves it costs less to give than you think!
It’s mid-December and another year is wrapping up. Many of us are turning to family get-togethers, shopping and the holiday season. But while you may have all their year-end plans in order, you may still be thinking about how to make the most impact in the community with your year-end charitable giving.
“Most of us don’t make a gift to our community solely for tax reasons, but making smart choices about how you give can make a big difference, both for the charity and for you.”
To help donors with their decision, United Way has unveiled a Tax Calculator, which breaks down the provincial and federal tax credit for donors. It also gives a good indication of the actual cost of making a donation, when tax-credits are factored back into the cost of the gift.
Many donors feel especially generous during the holiday season and choose to wait for this time of year to make their donation decisions. Just as many donors like to ensure they have made their gift before December 31 to help offset taxes in the coming year.
“Most of us don’t make a gift to our community solely for tax reasons,” says Kelly Ziegner, CEO and President of United Way Elgin Middlesex. “But making smart choices about how you give can make a big difference, both for the charity and for you.”
United Way’s Leadership Challenge Grant is another big incentive for donors looking to make a last minute gift with big impact. This grant fully matches any first-time Leadership gift of $1,200 or more, doubling your money in the community! Any increase to a Leadership gift over the prior year is matched as well.
Last year over 100,000 people used a United Way funded service. That’s one in five people receiving the support they needed, when they needed it. All gifts stay 100% local. Always.
