Local Love comes in all sizes

Grade 6 student Andre popped by United Way today to share an important message: You’re never too young to start giving back.

Andre presented a cheque for $150 to Kelly Ziegner, CEO, United Way Elgin Middlesex — proceeds from his 11th birthday party. Alongside Andre’s donation, 14 of his friends and family members also chipped in.

“It’s better to donate to people who don’t have the things I have,” Andre says. “It makes me proud.” This is the second year the young philanthropist has given his birthday money to United Way.

“In a city where poverty, homelessness, mental health issues and addiction are at an all-time high, we all need to help in any way we can,” says Elena, Andre’s mom. “My husband John and I have made it a priority to teach our son about the importance of giving back.”

“Every bit helps, no matter what amount.”
