Day of Caring® shines with a little help from a lot of friends

500 volunteers, 29 projects, one big impact

On Thursday, June 14, 2018, nearly 500 volunteers rolled up their sleeves to help social service agencies and improve lives locally.

United Way Elgin Middlesex’s 20th annual Day of Caring® presented by Libro Credit Union mobilized over 500 employees from 23 workplaces throughout the region to help local United Way funded agencies with 29 projects.

Volunteers tackled everything from sprucing up cabins for summer campers to painting murals, gardening and general maintenance. In addition to a satisfying day of hands-on work, volunteers learned about daily life at United Way funded agencies and helped create welcoming spaces for individuals and families.

“Our funded agencies are often so stretched that it’s difficult for them to do some of these capital projects,” says Kelly Ziegner, CEO United Way Elgin Middlesex. “Day of Caring is a really important signal to individuals and families who visit United Way funded programs that people in their community care about them.”

Thank you to Libro Credit Union for five incredible years of sponsorship.
