Meet this year’s United Way ChangeMakers

2025 Lifetime Achievement Award
John W. Murphy

John has always demonstrated a deep commitment to giving back to his community. He has been a member of our Grant Allocations team for many years and his contributions have been meaningful and impactful. Through his thoughtful approach and genuine care for others, John has helped ensure that resources are directed where they can make the greatest difference, reaching those who need them most.

John has been actively involved in community affairs throughout his career. His work in the not-for-profit sector has included being a member of the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council based in Halifax; allocations volunteer for United Way Elgin Middlesex, President of Family Services, and chair of the Finance Committee of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Saint John, NB; British Columbia’s representative on the Board of the Western Provinces CA School of Business; and chair of the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors of Theatre Calgary. Along with his work at United Way, since his retirement in 2013, John has continued to contribute his expertise to the National Board of Canadian Cancer Society, the Calgary Catholic Family  Service and the Calgary Homeless Foundation.

We’re proud to present John with an award that so closely aligns with his personal and family values of compassion and service, and with his belief in strengthening community. It serves as a fitting recognition of John’s ongoing efforts to create positive change, and of the dedication he brings to the many deserving organizations he has chosen to support.

2025 Outstanding Workplace Campaign
Wynward Insurance Group

Though a small team, Wynward Insurance Group delivers an outsized impact. A 2025 ChangeMaker and Outstanding Workplace Campaign Award recipient, they led a standout campaign—growing fundraising while strengthening community connections. Beyond dollars, employees assembled Winter Warmth kits for Crouch Neighbourhood Resource Centre, pairing generosity with hands-on action. Their commitment shows how small teams can make a meaningful difference.

2025 Outstanding Workplace Campaign
General Dynamics Land SystemsCanada

General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada is a 2025 ChangeMaker and Outstanding Workplace Campaign Award recipient, raising over $54,000 through special events. With strong leadership support and passionate employees, their campaign reflects true teamwork. From raffles to round-the-clock barbeques and sold-out bingo, staff consistently show up, demonstrating a culture of generosity, creativity, and pride in giving back.

Terry Rice, Western University

Terry has supported Western University’s United Way campaign for over 26 years, helping make it one of Canada’s top contributors. Working behind the scenes, Terry ensures everything runs smoothly, from capturing moments to supporting teams. Known for a calm approach and humour, Terry is the campaign’s “glue” and “heart and soul,” making a lasting, meaningful impact.

2025 Workplace Champion
Paul MacGregor, A.B. Lucas Secondary School

Paul has championed the United Way mission at A.B. Lucas Secondary School, ensuring staff, students, and families understand available supports—from academics to mental health and nutrition. His efforts have strengthened the school’s role as a vital community hub. Known for his genuine care, Paul exemplifies the impact of dedicated leadership and is a 2025 ChangeMaker. 

2025 Outstanding School Campaign
Student Council, Saint André Bessette Catholic Secondary School

The Saint André Bessette Student Council is recognized as a 2025 ChangeMaker for their outstanding impact. Through United Way in Sport, they transformed school games into meaningful opportunities for students to support one another. Their energy and dedication raised funds that directly support local mental health resources, helping ensure every student feels a true sense of belonging. 

2025 Workplace Champion
Anita Miersma & Paul Meadows, Canada Life

Anita and Paul are dedicated United Way champions at Canada Life, leading UWEM’s largest workplace campaign. As co-champions in London, they bring energy and collaboration, introducing engaging events and strengthening local impact. Anita also serves on the UWEM Board, while Paul contributes to the Campaign Cabinet. Their leadership and commitment continue to inspire meaningful community impact year after year. 

2025 Spirit of Giving Award
St. Joseph’s Health Care London

St. Joseph’s Health Care London is the 2025 ChangeMaker Spirit of Giving Award recipient, recognized for its longstanding partnership with United Way Elgin Middlesex. Through a strong employee campaign and Sponsored Employee support, they demonstrate leadership and commitment. Despite changes to fundraising approaches, their teams remained engaged, showing resilience, adaptability, and a true spirit of community leadership.

Takumi Stamping Canada Inc.

From the moment they got involved, their team showed up in a big way bringing enthusiasm, energy, and true team spirit to United Way’s signature events. Not only did they participate, they stood out as one of the top fundraising teams, rallying together to make a meaningful difference in our community. Their passion, commitment, and willingness to jump in and lead by example have not gone unnoticed. We are so grateful for their support!

Daya Counselling Centre

Christine Ward, Andrew Vincient, and Diana Quinn make up the admin team at Daya. They are often the first point of contact for clients and visitors, warmly welcoming those who walk through the doors. They provide essential support to both people seeking therapy and clinicians, playing a critical role in the overall mental wellness environment and daily operations.

Leigha Lanigan, London Cares

Leigha is a Site Supervisor with Canadian Security Solutions, working in partnership with London Cares at the Highly Supportive Housing location. She plays an integral role in maintaining safety, stability, and support for residents and staff. Leigha is recognized for her professionalism, collaboration, and commitment to creating a secure and welcoming environment within a complex housing setting in London.

Barb Mitchell, Woman’s Rural Resource Centre

Barb Mitchell has been an Outreach Worker at Women’s Rural Resource Centre for four years, providing life-changing advocacy for women, children, and men. Known for her kindness and dedication, she supports clients through family court and police processes, often adjusting her schedule, including weekends. Her commitment to WRRC and Victim Services and community outreach makes her truly exceptional every day.
