Local Issues

Our Community Impact Priorities.

Poverty looks different for everyone — but its impacts are felt across our entire community. Rising costs, limited access to housing and services, and systemic barriers continue to make it harder for people to meet their basic needs and live with dignity.

At United Way Elgin Middlesex, we tackle poverty so everyone in our region has a fair shot at a good life. Guided by our Community Impact Agenda, we focus our investments, advocacy, and partnerships in five priority areas where we know we can create meaningful, lasting change.

Together with community partners, donors, and volunteers, we work to remove barriers, strengthen supports, and build more equitable communities.

Housing Stability

Safe, stable housing is critical to health, well-being, and economic security. Too many people in our region face barriers to finding and maintaining suitable housing, increasing the risk of homelessness and instability.

Inclusion & Belonging

Strong communities are built when everyone feels welcomed, valued, and connected. Many equity-deserving populations face systemic barriers that lead to isolation and exclusion.

Mental Health Supports

Mental health challenges affect individuals, families, and caregivers across our communities. Timely, community-based supports help reduce stigma, improve well-being, and ensure people can access help when they need it most.
