For an amazing 25 years now, LiUNA Local 1059 has been bringing people together in support of United Way Elgin Middlesex at its annual charity golf tournaments.
Hundreds of union members, signatory employers and industry partners came out to enjoy a round of golf while raising an astounding $278,000 for United Way – continuing their streak as our largest third-party fundraiser for another year.
The tournament has grown to a two-day two-courses weekend at FireRock Golf Club and The Oak Golf Club, and is the highlight of a long-standing partnership between Labour and United Way. This year’s event included more than 400 golfers from across Southwestern Ontario’s construction and service sectors.
With this year’s donation, LiUNA Local 1059’s cumulative giving total is now over $2 million.
“We’re so grateful,” said United Way Elgin Middlesex president and CEO Kelly Ziegner, “to have a partner that is committed to helping their community and to getting their whole membership involved.”
United Way Elgin Middlesex supports 44 community-based programs and services that reduce and prevent poverty, provide basic needs, and provide housing stability.
